Ignition supports BBC DIY SOS The Big Build

DIY SOS The Big Build is known for helping those in need and often relies on the compassion of the community for support, whether that is asking for volunteers to offer their time and expertise or seeking tradespeople to assist with the build itself. On this occasion, Nick Knowles and his team sought support for a family in Scunthorpe, with the aim to completely transform their home and their lives, and we were more than happy to offer our own contribution.

The story behind this Big Build

After experiencing the misfortune of the loss of two loved ones over the years, this family were more than deserving when it came to this episode of The Big Build. Caroline and Paul unfortunately lost their seven-year-old daughter Natasha in 2007 after she hit her head in the garage, and sadly Paul also passed away nine years later when he suffered a cardiac arrest in the conservatory. This then left Caroline and her children with the constant, physical reminders of their devastating losses in the form of the garage and the conservatory.

How Ignition contributed

The plan was to renovate this home and remove those constant reminders for the family. One of the many things they needed was a new heating system, so we donated two of our finest electric radiators to the cause. The entire project took a total of five days to complete with help from hundreds of volunteers to make it a success. This is the second year in a row that Ignition has contributed to a worthy cause through our partnership with DIY SOS. We are proud to have been a part of this renovation and want to thank Nick Knowles and his team on The Big Build for the incredible opportunity.
